SHELLEY NIRO, SAMINA MANSURI, ANDREW MCPHAIL, STEVE MAZZA, JUDITH SCHWARZ, DELIO DELGADO, BRYCE KANBARA, curated by Ingrid Mayrhofer Locations: Various sites in Hamilton Dates: beginning July 7, 2012, with the opening of Steve Mazza’s installation at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology, featuring a free tour of the museum Saturday, July 7, 2 – 4 pm, 900 Woodward Av Seven artists from Hamilton, Brantford and Toronto, explore the steadfast imprint of steel on Hamilton. In their research, the artists conducted site visits to steel processing plants, scrap yards, historical sites, and brown fields. The resulting artworks respond to steel as a material, an idea, a process, an element, and reach beyond the visual tropes of the post-industrial space and time. Qualia - what steel town feels like - intends to evoke sensory experiences that resonate with steel, and with the people who live with its material and immaterial impact.
